Former Thurso pupil to become new sheriff at Wick

Wick is set to get a new sheriff next month as a former Thurso pupil prepares to take on the role.

Defence solicitor advocate Neil Wilson acted in his final case as a defence lawyer at Inverness Sheriff Court last week and will take up the role as sheriff in Wick and Tain on September 4.

Mr Wilson was educated at Thurso High School, and thereafter graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1987 with a First Class Honours degree in Philosophy.

He later returned to the same university for his LLB (1994) and Diploma in Legal Practice (1995).

After four years at Ross Harper and Murphy in Glasgow, he moved to Inverness and ultimately became a partner at Ferguson & Wilson Solicitors.

He has always specialised in criminal defence work, and qualified as a Solicitor Advocate in 2007.

Mr Wilson, a keen mountaineer, is also a member of Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team.
