Caithness Family History Society (CFHS) welcomes Jane Coll to its March meeting on Tuesday the 12th, where she will give a talk entitled In Their Footsteps about the Northern Pilgrims’ Way.

The Way is a long-distance pilgrimage route linking the shrines of St Duthac in Tain and St Magnus in Kirkwall, which includes many places in Caithness. Some of the sites have the remains of chapels and/or historic gravestones, which family history enthusiasts find very useful in their research.

Jane and her friends did a huge amount of research and produced a leaflet, The Northern Saints’ Trail, which links the Caithness sites associated with the early Celtic saints who brought Christianity to the area. These places were organised into six circular routes, four starting in Thurso and two in Wick.

Many locals will have heard of Wick’s St Fergus but what about Drostan and all the others? More can be found out at the West Church Hall in Thurso (entrance from Princes Street) on Tuesday, March 12 at 7pm.

CFHS has a website caithnessfhs.org.uk and a Facebook page.
