A SPANISH fishing skipper has been accused of attacking his first mate while their trawler was berthed at Scrabster last summer.

Adolfo Pego-Brion (46) pleaded not guilty on indictment to repeatedly stabbing Marcial Torres to his severe injury and danger to his life in the wheelhouse of the trawler Brisca.

The assault is alleged to have occurred on August 20, Wick Sheriff Court was told today.

Pego-Brion, whose address was given as c/o Marmar Marine Services Ltd, Ullapool, will stand trial on June 27. Bail was granted.

The court heard that if a joint minute being drawn up by the prosecution and defence was completed and approved, it would reduce the number of witnesses cited from 22 to six.

An interpreter was engaged to facilitate yesterday's proceedings and will assist at the forthcoming trial.
