VACCINATION teams have been praised for their “heroic” efforts after Scotland recorded a daily record for the number of Covid jags administered – despite the winter snow storms.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was speaking during Thursday’s daily Covid briefing, when she revealed that 63,178 people received their first dose of the Covid vaccine in the 24 hours leading up to 8.30am today.

This not only broke the previous daily record, but took Scotland’s number of first doses administered above the one million mark – to 1,048,747.

She praised the efforts of all those involved, adding “and when you think about the truly dreadful weather… I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to describe this as an heroic achievement”.

She added that the one million milestone also meant that 23 per cent of Scotland’s adult population have now received the first of the vaccine’s two doses, and said this “gives us real hope”.
