Fireworks fun night at Wick riverside
THERE was a carnival atmosphere at Wick riverside on Saturday evening when the crowds turned out to enjoy the annual fireworks display.
Unfortunately the Wick Gala Committee's bonfire night celebration was lacking the planned bonfire, as the recent wet weather meant that the water level in the river was too high to safely allow the contractor to move the material to the island for burning.
But there was still plenty to enjoy and with the weather staying fine the event was very well attended.
The fireworks display itself impressed the watchers, the sideshows were there to entertain the youngsters and the boating shed was open from 6.30pm selling hot dogs, burgers, doughnuts, toffee apples and hot drinks, including hot chocolate with an option of marshmallows and whipped cream. In addition there was a variety of stalls, including one offering face-painting.
One onlooker, attending her first bonfire night event at the riverside, said: "It was great to see the sideshows, the colours, music, screams of excitement and hear the stall holders' banter. I loved it... what an atmosphere."
