A Caithness man is contesting two alleged contraventions of the Firearms Act.

Patrick James Sinclair is accused at Wick Sheriff Court of insecurely storing a shotgun outwith the gun cabinet at his home at Laundry Cottage, Westerdale.

The 68-year-old pleaded not guilty by letter when the case was tabled on Wednesday. He also denies storing rifle ammunition insecurely.

Both charges allege breaches of the shotgun and firearms certificates he holds.

His trial is due to take place on January 25.
