EMERGENCY services are in attendance at a village shop in Halkirk carrying out investigations into how a fire broke out on Friday morning.

The fire, which is believed to have developed due to an electrical fault, occurred in the top floor of DY Forbes on Sinclair Street at 10:54am.

Four fire crews from Thurso, Wick and Tain were called to the blaze which resulted in occupants of the upstairs premises and in the shop having to evacuate.

An ambulance was called to the scene, but a spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed nobody was injured.

Investigations are underway at the scene and SSE have switched off the power supply to homes in the Bridge Street and Sinclair Street areas as they try to identify what caused the problem at the shop.

Diversions are currently in place at Sinclair Street.
