A Wick woman who shouted and swore at police officers and dug her nails into one of them was fined a total of £300 at Wick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when Sarah Scolley was arrested after an incident at a local pub, Harper's Bar, late on May 27, and shouted abuse at the officers while being detained.

Fiscal David Barclay said that the 41-year-old claimed that she was the injured party and was "unfairly targeted".

At the police station, Scolley, of Kirkhill, Wick, dug her nails into the palm of one of the officer's hands but fortunately did not break the skin.

Sheriff Neil Wilson, who was told that Scolley was getting help to address difficulties in her life, including excessive drinking, described her behaviour as "entirely inappropriate".

The accused admitted charges of threatening or abusive behaviour and assault and a previous record of offending.
