An offshore worker who "stupidly" decided to drive after consuming alcohol was fined £660 this week.

Aaron Edwards (36) was also banned from driving for a year after he pleaded guilty at Wick Sheriff Court to having been more than twice the legal limit.

Edwards was stopped by police officers in Francis Street, Wick, on January 19, and gave a positive breath test.

A follow-up test revealed a breath alcohol level of 51mcg, more than twice the 22mcg limit.

His solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that that Edwards, of Francis Street, accepted that his decision to drive had been "a stupid one".

She added that the accused had been trying to deal with a breakdown in his relationship at the time.
