A Wick man found in possession of a knife in a local street was fined £800 at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Jason Reilly (37) pleaded guilty.

He was stopped by police officers in Dempster Street, Wick, on December 14 last year and the knife was discovered.

Reilly, of Nicolson Street, Wick, claimed he used the three-inch blade to do jobs around the house.

Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that the accused had kept out of trouble in recent years and was engaging voluntarily with the authorities concerning his health difficulties.

Sheriff Mark Lindsay, KC, who saw a background report, said he would deal with the case by way of a fine as he did not think Reilly would be able to undertake unpaid community work.
