A Wick man found to have been driving with more than twice the legal drink-driving limit was fined £400 at Wick Sheriff Court.

First offender Owen Robertson (25) was also banned from driving for a year after he pleaded guilty and chose to represent himself.

Sheriff Neil Wilson heard that Robertson, a general worker, failed a breath test after he was stopped by police officers in the Mount Pleasant area of Thurso, on March 16.

A follow-up test, later, produced a reading of 58mg - the legal limit is 22mg.

Sheriff Wilson gave Robertson, of Ackergill Street, Wick, credit for his early plea and the fact he had co-operated fully with the police but made the point that the accused had been more than twice the legal limit.
