A driver who failed to maintain sufficient space between her and the car in front and collided with it was fined £270 at Wick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Emma Moffat (31) also incurred three penalty points after admitting a reduced charge of careless driving. She was said to have misjudged the required distance, resulting in damage to the other vehicle.

The collision occurred on the Camster Road, at Occumster, on October 1, last year.

Sentencing Moffat, a single mother-of-four, of Achan House, Blanbruich, Dunbeath, Sheriff Andrew Berry said he would restrict the fine in light of her limited finances and family commitments.
