Fond farewell to Rev Lyall Rennie
BRITANNIA Hall in Dunnet was filled to capacity at a final farewell concert for a popular Church of Scotland minister on his retirement.
The Rev Lyall Rennie has hung up his dog collar along other ecclesiastical garments and called it a day on preaching from the pulpits of his parish churches.
Many shed a tear at the end of a spectacular evening filled with songs and laughter at the Britannia Hall.
Henry Gunn, a parishioner from Canisbay kirk, gave a vote of thanks to Mr Rennie for all his years of service.
"This has been an excellent night for experiencing all that is good in our community," he said. "We had lovely home baking along with young musical talent and the people of this area all coming together for this great event.
"It's maybe tinged with some sadness but Lyall and his wife Isobel are going to be excellent members of the community here for many years to come."
Congregations from the Pentland parish – a union of four places of worship including Keiss, Olrig, Dunnet and Canisbay churches – filled every seat in the hall and gave praise to the minister who had looked after their spiritual needs over the years.

At the end of the evening Mr Rennie said: "I'm feeling both happy and sad to be retiring – especially sad after the farewell party tonight. The entertainment and number of people who turned up was wonderful to see."
Apart from a possible well-earned holiday, Mr Rennie hopes to have time to concentrate on a long-held ambition to build a model railway.
