Fifteen acts taking to the stage in Thurso’s Got Talent spectacular

ONE of the performers taking part in Thurso's Got Talent this weekend is definitely Out of the Ordinary.

That is the stage name of guitarist Carla Williamson, one of 15 acts on the bill at the show in Thurso High School on Saturday evening.

But, as far as the organisers are concerned, all of those involved are extraordinary and well worth seeing. They include six-year-old Martha Potts, who will be playing the cornet while hula-hooping, and purple ukulele player Faith Barker as well as performers from the Edge Dance Studio and the Caithness Gymnastics Fusion display team fresh from the recent Gymfest in Motherwell.

Final preparations are being made for the show which is being organised by Thurso Community Development Trust (TCDT) as a fundraiser but also as a celebration of local talent.

Trust treasurer Carol Paterson said: "It is absolutely fantastic the range of acts that we have performing on the night. We are looking forward to the audience enjoying the evening and are excited to see who will be voted our winner."

In addition to the acts performing for votes on Saturday, entertainment will be provided by Thurso High School Rock Challenge while the all-important votes are being counted.

TCDT spokeswoman Joan Lawrie said: "They will shortly be performing in the Scottish national finals so this gives people a fantastic opportunity to see their highly recommended performance live in action."

She pointed out that the winners of the contest will get a cash prize and a featured performance slot at Thurso Town Improvements Association's Midsummer Madness event being held from June 21-23.

The first prize winner will be awarded £250, with the runner-up getting £100 and third place receiving £50.

Ms Lawrie added: "We are delighted that Gail Ross [MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross] will be presenting the prizes on the night. The event has been sponsored by AGM Batteries, Nuvia and Dounreay Communities Fund."

Tickets are available from McBeath’s Jewellers in Thurso at a cost of £8 for adults and £5 concessions. The show starts at 7pm.
