Despite the rainy weather, nothing could spoil the festive cheer at Thurso Fun Day.

Shopkeepers opened their doors to offer lots of bargains, while Caithness FM and members of Thurso Pipe Band in Christmas jumpers kept everyone entertained.

Also in attendance ahead of his official visit on Christmas Eve was Santa, as he took some last-minute requests from children who came to see him at his grotto inside Thurso Library.

Helen Allan from Thurso Community Development Trust said the day had been a great success.

“The weather was glum but that did not put people off attending,” she said. “The feedback we got from the shopkeepers was that they were very happy with how the day went.

“I was at Santa’s grotto and that was a success too despite the change of venue – in past years we had held it at Caithness Horizons.

"The shop window competition drew the usual high standard of entries with the Thurso Launderette edging out the Temptations and Driftwood shops to win.

“Jameson’s Bakery took the fancy-dress prize with their staff dressing up as the Addams Family.”
