HUNDREDS of people turned out for Wick Fun Day as the town's Christmas lights were switched on.
Traders' stalls galore popped up to offer shoppers festive bargains and treats, and Mr and Mrs Claus were in their grotto. The umbrella parade set off from the boating shed at the river and arrived in time for the big switch-on carried out by gala queen Maja Pearson with help from Santa.
Caithness civic leader Willie Mackay was among those delighted with the festive atmosphere in the town centre on Saturday.
He said: "This was a fantastic Wick Fun Day, bringing hundreds into the town centre.
"We had a wonderful weather window and by 4pm, with the arrival of some brilliant colourful brightly lit umbrellas, the Market Square was as usual packed for the Christmas lights switch-on.
"I'm always amazed by the voluntary work that goes on in the build-up to such a festive season highlight.
"There were lots of children throughout a non-stop five-and-a-half hours visiting the grotto with their Christmas wish lists.
"Among the unusual presents asked for were drones and quad bikes, but among the favourites were XBoxes and PlayStations.
"However, most children wanted a surprise on Christmas morning and all were going to leave Santa home-made cookies shortbread and Christmas pies with carrots for Rudolph and his fellow reindeer."
