Feeding sheep in high demand at Caithness mart
Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts on Monday sold 61 store cattle and 806 prime, store and feeding sheep.
Bullocks (34) averaged 438p per kg and sold to 497.4p for a pen of two 386kg Charolais crosses from Bardnaclavan, Bridge of Westfield and £2220 for a pair of 569kg Beef Shorthorn crosses from Toftcarl, Thrumster.
Heifers (27) averaged 425.3p and sold to 498.6p for three 353kg Charolais Cross from Bardnaclavan and £2150 gross for a 492kg for Limousin crosses from Boulintogle, Scotscalder.
Old season prime lambs (104) averaged 275.4p and sold to 298.9p for a 45kg Beltex and £170 gross for a 69kg Texel from Brae Edge, Castletown.
Old season store lambs (279) averaged £113.76 and sold to £160 for North Country Cheviots ewe lambs from Alywin, Gersa.
Feeding ewes and rams (423) averaged £137.61 and sold to £264.50 for a Texel Ram from Thurdistoft, Castletown.

“With a mix show forward, cattle were cashed at recent rates. Prime sheep proved more difficult to sell while feeding sheep were in high demand.”
