Two flatmates from the Far North have described living and working in London as violent riots and looting grip the city.

Jennifer Georgeson, from Latheron, and Ben Edwards, formerly of Tongue, have spoken out about the troubles facing them on their daily commute to work after areas of the city were rocked by gangs of unruly mobs.

“There is a lot of general tension,” said Ben. “I work just down the road from Camden and we went out for lunch and a load of mobile phone shops have had their windows put in and are just ruined.”

The rioting flared on Saturday after a protest over the fatal shooting of Mark Duggan by police at Ferry Lane, Tottenham, last Thursday, got out of hand.

Since then buildings have been razed to the ground by fire and streets strewn with waste.

“I walked from the tube to the hotel where I work, about a six-minute walk, and I saw eight police,” explained Jennifer. “They’re taking it very seriously.”
