A new youth group has been set up by a Caithness arts organisation and invites teens to get involved in all forms of the arts.

Lyth Arts Centre (LAC) has set up the initiative called Caithness Young Creatives (CYC) which is comprised of, and lead by, young people aged 14-19 to support all forms of the arts in Caithness.

There is an "exciting programme" of events, two of which are coming up next month – Contemporary Performance and Introduction to Unarmed Stage Combat.

LAC is also on the hunt for young people to become members of its steering group to help shape the future of the group through young people's voices.

The CYC steering group meets up monthly to discuss ideas for a programme of workshops led by professional artists, performers and creatives which are then made available to young people at Lyth Arts Centre throughout the year.

Workshops have involved:

  • Creative writing
  • Introduction to Drawing Techniques
  • Introduction to film
  • Video and Sound Design
  • Ceramics
  • Contemporary performance
  • Writing for the stage

The arts centre is currently looking for new steering group members to be involved in organising the CYC programme for the next year and also to be involved in a filmmaking and research project beginning in March.

If you would like to be a steering group member and you have time to commit to monthly meetings, attending regular creative workshops and being part of a creative team, get in touch with helen@lytharts.org.uk to ask for an application form.
