Caithness Family History Society is all set to celebrate its 20th anniversary with an event in Wick next week.

Birthday cake and a cuppa will be part of the proceedings and there is sure to be a great deal of reminiscing.

The society began in 1999 after a small group attending a genealogy course at the then Thurso College decided to continue with their research.

They set up the society to help each other, and any other people who were interested in family history research, and have held 10 meetings every year since.

In its first year a journal was published and this continues three times a year. Modern technology led to a CFHS website, a Facebook page and a Facebook discussion group.

There are currently 285 members, who live all over the world.

Courtesy of the Wick Society, replicas of five beautiful Icelandic panels from the Diaspora Tapestry will be on display at next week's celebration. The panels feature Aud the Deepminded and tell of her connection to Caithness.

Another important part of the evening is the society's annual general meeting, at which the past year will be reviewed and plans made for the future.

All are welcome to the event at the Nethercliffe Hotel, Louisburgh Street, Wick, at 7pm on Wednesday, October 9.
