Armed Forces Day is to be celebrated in Thurso this weekend for the first time in many years.
The local branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS) is staging the event on Sunday, June 25, along Riverside Road in the immediate vicinity of the town's Legion club.
Organisers are promising a fun day out for all the family.
Activities will include local produce stalls, children’s games, a bouncy castle, face-painting, an armed forces scavenger hunt, a best-dressed superhero competition, a river duck race and a barbecue, along with tea and coffee.
Those taking part include UK armed forces, veterans, cadet forces, Highland dancers and emergency services, while Thurso and District Pipe Band and Pentland Brass Band will both be present.
The event will run from 11am to 4pm, with an official opening by Lord Thurso, the Lord-Lieutenant of Caithness, at 1pm.
The Legion branch decided to reintroduce Armed Forces Day in the town to show support for the UK armed forces, past and present, and their families while promoting the contribution that the RBLS makes locally, regionally and nationally.
This year's Armed Forces Week began on Monday.
