‘Error of judgement’ made by Castletown drink-driver
A Castletown man who tested more than twice the legal drink-drive limit was fined £300 at Wick Sheriff Court.
Alistair Campbell (36) was also banned from driving for a year after he tendered a guilty plea.
Campbell, of Dwarick View, Battery Road, Castletown, was stopped by police officers in Ormlie Road, Thurso, shortly before midnight on November 27, and failed a roadside breath test. A follow-up test at the town’s police station revealed a breath-alcohol level of 50 mcg – the legal limit is 22 mcg.
Solicitor Fiona MacDoald said that the accused had “made an error of judgement” in deciding to drive.
Sheriff Neil Wilson, who commented on the “quite high” reading, said he would restrict the ban in light of Campbell’s early plea.
