The John O’Groats Book Festival has morphed into the John O’Groats Story Festival with the intention of running a series of story-based events featuring local stories and using local storytellers.

Coordinator of the event, Ian Leith, says that John O’Groats and the surrounding area is rich in "stories, histories, legends and folklore" and the intention is to bring these to all visitors, be they local or from across the world.

"The festival is being fully supported by and developed along with local businesses," says Ian.

"At John O’Groats you can enjoy shopping, eating, activities and the most wonderful coastal scenery. The Story Festival aims to enhance all of these while enabling visitors to experience the full John O’Groats experience."

Story-based events will run throughout the year and begins with what will be a regular weekly "Story Walk" along the coastal paths. The Story Walks will be led by Walter Mowat, whose knowledge of John O’Groats is second to none, says Ian. He will be assisted by other local historians and storytellers as appropriate.

The Story Walks will run on Thursdays at 3pm, starting on Thursday, March 23, and anyone interested should meet at the famous Groats signpost.

Donations to the John O’Groats Development Trust will be gratefully received.
