An Aberdeen-based oilfield equipment firm with premises in Caithness is venturing into new territory after winning its first contract in Uganda.

EnerQuip has agreed a $500,000 scope of work to supply an existing customer in a new location with a containerised make-up and breakout unit.

The company, which manufactures torque machines at its facilities in Aberdeen and at Smerlie, Lybster, hopes the contract will lead to other opportunities in East Africa. It comes after EnerQuip gained work worth more than $2 million in the last few weeks of 2021.

It is expected that the Uganda contract will not only secure jobs at Enerquip’s Aberdeen and Caithness premises but accelerate an ongoing recruitment drive seeking technical engineering and design personnel in particular to help fulfil a healthy 2022 order book.

EnerQuip global sales and business development manager Darren Bragg said: “Given that around 95 per cent of our revenues come from export markets, it is imperative that we continue to expand our corporate horizons in ways that ensure diversified income streams in new regional markets.

“In working with an existing customer in a new territory, we are delighted to be able to foster client relationships in a mutually beneficial way which enables us to support clients on their growth trajectory while exploring new possibilities for EnerQuip.

“We hope that delivering this first project into the fledgling Ugandan marketplace will provide us with a vital springboard to explore further opportunities in the country as the industry develops and in the wider East Africa region.”

EnerQuip was founded in 2015 and is a market-leading specialist in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of torque machines and associated products, including bucking units and fully rotational make-up and breakout torque machines.

It has a growing client base in Africa, North America, South America, Europe, the Far East, Australia, the Middle East and Russia.

Fabrication and welding for the torque machines takes place at the Caithness workshop, where 10 people are employed.

Just over a year ago EnerQuip received a Queen's Award for Enterprise for outstanding achievement in the field of international trade.
