THURSO is one of three communities hosting energy efficiency drop-in events next week.

The Scottish Government has awarded funding to Highland Council to deliver area-based energy efficiency programmes in the region.

These aim to:

  • Target fuel-poor areas
  • Offer insulation measures, such as external wall insulation and cavity and loft insulation

The government grant, in conjunction with Energy Company Obligation funding and a home-owner contribution, will help owner-occupiers and privately rented properties to improve the energy efficiency within their homes.

Community events have been organised in Cromarty and Lairg as well as Thurso to provide more information.

The Thurso event takes place on Monday, February 10, at the town's library, from 2.30-5.30pm.

Sessions at Cromarty Village Hall and Lairg Community Centre will follow on the Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons respectively.

Letters are being distributed to home-owners in the area inviting them to call in to these sessions to meet representatives from the council and E.ON, ask questions and confirm eligibility. Other home-owners are welcome to attend to find out more on energy efficiency.

Highland Council is keen to highlight to home-owners that initial contact will be in writing only and no cold-calling or door-knocking will take place.
