ROADWORKS which has disrupted traffic for months on the northern most stretch of the A9 are close to completion.

Transport Scotland has revealed the improvement scheme at Portgower to allow a new culvert over the Allt Gharb Burn and to construct retaining walls to support a section of new road over the culvert should be completed by the end of next week.

The £1 million project began in May and has suffered a delay due to technical difficulties.

Eddie Ross, of trunk road contractor BEAR Scotland, said: “The culvert replacement works are on track to be completed at the end of this month.

“Works to resurface this section of the A9 and adding fresh road markings will take place next week.

“Traffic management will be removed once this is completed.

“Following this, some minor works will be undertaken on the verges, at nearby properties, and to remove temporary utilities diversions.

“These remaining works are likely to require short term-traffic management for the protection of the workforce during the working day.”
