Enable members celebrate 60th anniversary at tea party in Wick
Enable members got together in Wick at the weekend to celebrate the first 60 years of the charity's Caithness branch – their first function since before the pandemic.
The anniversary tea party at Mackays Hotel on Saturday afternoon was hailed as a great success by branch chairman Willie Mackay.
Eighty-five members, helpers and carers enjoyed a party atmosphere thanks to hotel owners Murray and Ellie Lamont, who had the ballroom decorated in style for the occasion.
Music was provided by Robin Young (accordion), a long-time friend of Enable, accompanied by Steven Cameron (guitar).
The tea party marked the start of a year-round programme of events, outings and activities organised by the charity for people with learning disabilities.
Mr Mackay said: "After two years and nine months the management committee wanted to get this long-awaited event just right – being the 60th year of the branch and our first function since January 2020, just before Covid put all our activities on hold.
"As soon as Robin Young and Steven Cameron struck up the first tune, the dance floor was never empty. It was a real joy to see our learning-disabled members coming together once more and happily dancing away."
