A SPECTACULAR flash was seen at Dunnet this morning and was followed by another shortly afterwards.

The problem seems to have been the result of an electrical fault on a power line caused by a crow’s nest on a transformer. The incident happened near the salmon bothy at Westside.

Local resident Stuart Young said the first flash, which occurred at around 10.30am, was “spectacular”.

“It was followed by a second flash but it was not quite so spectacular. The incident result in a power cut but Hydro-Electric were on the scene pretty quickly and we now have our power back. I was very impressed by the job they did,” said Mr Young.

The power was off for about an hour following the incident.
