A POWER cut left almost 700 customers in the Castletown area without electricity on Tuesday afternoon. The problem was reported to Scottish and Southern Electricty Networks (SSEN) about 4pm and lasted up to an hour.

An SSEN spokeswoman confirmed there was a high voltage fault in Castletown and the surrounding area and said 683 people were impacted as a result.

"Customers were restored in stages through network switching, with all customers back on supply by 4.57pm. We’d like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by Tuesday’s fault and thank the local community for their patience as our teams worked to restore supplies as quickly as possible," she said.

The source of the problem has yet to be identified. "Our engineers are investigating the cause so that necessary repairs can be made," added the spokeswoman.
