Durty Beanz want your info on Caithness cuisine

Alys Owen and Simon Buckley, two visual artists based in Glasgow, are visiting Caithness for a two-week research trip investigating the area's food.

The duo, known as Durty Beanz (DB) and based at Lyth Arts Centre (LAC), are investigating the "role and sociocultural functions of global cuisine takeaway outlets" in the Highlands.

They will explore takeaway outlets in Caithness offering Scotland’s three most popular global takeaway cuisines (Chinese, Indian and Italian). Towards the end of their stay, they’ll be rustling up some snacks and giving an informal talk on their findings.

DB is a contemporary art project made up of a network of international artists, academics and makers. Its goal is to playfully interrogate the shifting status of food, specifically in relation to global food inequalities, climate crisis and cultural identities.

The artists asked if the public could suggest some of their favourite places, orders and eating spots? "Maybe you know some places yourself? As well as takeaways, we'd also be interested in finding out about local cooking practices, processes and tips? What makes Caithness unique? What do people like here? How does the place impact the things eaten here?"
