A CAITHNESS trust has won a major accolade in an award ceremony at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.

Dunnet Forestry Trust (DFT) won Community Path Group of the Year at the Paths for All award ceremony. Two board members, Anna Graham and Shona Scatchard, received the award on behalf of the DFT from Scottish Government minister Joe FitzPatrick in the garden gallery within the building.

There were 12 awards given out to various groups from across Scotland and more than 150 people attended the ceremony.

Andrew Wands, chair of DFT, said: "It is most encouraging to see that the efforts of the board and our team of volunteers are receiving national recognition for the hard work and planning that goes into providing better access to all groups in the community.

"We hope to continue improving the facilities we offer in the forest as we progress along the route of bringing it into community ownership – hopefully, within the next 12 months."

The award totalled £250, including £30 in vouchers, with certificates for all volunteers who helped to maintain the path network.
