Next Wednesday (August 9) Mary-Ann's Cottage in Dunnet will host a celebration day to mark 30 years of the museum opening.

This free community event will see the cottage open its doors to all, and there will be refreshments available from 10am to 4.30pm.

At noon, Mary-Ann's granddaughter will cut a celebration cake, and the organisers say "it would be great to see new and old faces attend to support this important local museum" which celebrates Caithness' unique crofting heritage.

Annette Sinclair, one of the cottage's trustees, said: "We are excited to be opening up Mary-Ann's Cottage to celebrate our 30 year anniversary.

"We are all very much looking forward to welcoming members of the local community to enjoy refreshments, and take a free tour of the museum, which offers a very special glimpse back in time, and showcases 150 years of rural life in Caithness. We just hope the sun makes an appearance too!"
