A Dunbeath man has faced the music for an alarming outburst at a stranger’s house in Orkney.

Michael Cowie previously pleaded guilty by letter at Kirkwall Sheriff Court to threatening and abusive manner towards a woman at her home in St Margaret's Hope early on June 10.

His sentence was continued until this week for reports and his personal appearance.

Kirkwall Sheriff Court heard the woman offered him a place on her sofa for the night after meeting him on the bus.

Shortly after midnight the 35-year-old had become agitated and shouted that he wanted to kill himself and kill his children.

The woman phoned 999 and police were sent to her home where he was arrested.

The court heard Cowie that her client had been in Orkney for the weekend for a wedding.

Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said he had no recollection of the incident but accepted guilt.

Cowie, of Karrian, Clashvalley Road, was fined £800, plus a £40 victim surcharge.
