Dunbeath Castle and estate 'under offer' – and so is Glutt

Dunbeath Castle and estate is "under offer" – eight months after being put on the market for more than £25 million.
An offer has also been accepted for the neighbouring Glutt estate, for which offers over £7 million have been sought.
Both properties have been marketed by property agents Savills. The missive process is expected to take several weeks to complete.
Dunbeath estate and its 13-bedroom castle went on the market in June last year.
As well as the category "A" listed cliff-top castle, the sale includes 21 houses and cottages, a 500-acre farm, a shooting lodge with six bedrooms, a pair of walled gardens, a deer forest, grouse moor and fishing rights.
In all it extends to some 28,500 acres.
The earliest parts of the category "A" listed castle date from the 15th century but it was extensively remodelled in the 1860s.
Savills pointed to "extensive peatland restoration opportunities", "diversified letting income" and "renewables and development potential" on the estate.
Savills' Evelyn Channing said in June: “This sale represents an opportunity to acquire one of Scotland’s great castles and an estate in the Flow Country. At a time when there is great focus on the delivery of nature-based solutions to counter our climate emergency, the vast tracts of peatland on Dunbeath will undoubtedly stimulate much interest.”
The Glutt estate at Altnabreac extends to some 7324 acres. It includes the four-bedroom Glutt Lodge as well as a keeper's cottage and bothy, with grouse shooting, red deer stalking and "three active peatland restoration projects".
According to Savills, Glutt provides "many of the attributes one might traditionally seek in a Scottish estate: privacy and seclusion, [and] a comfortable and manageable lodge set within magnificent scenery".
The property agents' website says: "The Glutt is currently under the same family ownership and is, to some extent, managed as part of the neighbouring Dunbeath estate to the east. When combined, these two magnificent but contrasting estates extend to about 35,900 acres in total, ranging from dramatic coastline and designed policies to the rugged wilderness of the Flow Country in the west."
Recently a 10-minute YouTube film fronted by Philip Wells, an American estate agent, gave a glimpse inside Dunbeath Castle along with drone footage of the surrounding estate. It is entitled "Inside a $32,000,000 Castle for Sale in Scotland" and has had more than 750,000 views online.
Owner Stuart Wyndham Murray Threipland was facing “severe financial pressures” when he took his own life on the day his estate and castle at Dunbeath went on the market, an inquest in England was told in July.
Dunbeath Castle was listed in the top 10 most popular properties for sale in 2023 by property site Zoopla, saying it attracted people “dreaming of escaping to the Scottish Highlands”.
