Dunbar Hospital’s overnight MIU service to be temporarily suspended

OVERNIGHT services at the Minor Injury Unit at Dunbar Hospital in Thurso will be temporarily suspended from next weekend.

NHS Highland announced due to escalating staffing concerns, a decision has been made to suspend the overnight service at the Minor Injury Unit (MIU) on a temporary basis from Friday December 23.

It said the move has been made to ensure that the hospital’s in-patient unit can remain open.

While the MIU will be closed from that date, members of the public will be able to contact the Out of Hours doctor on call between 7pm in the evening to 7am in the morning.

Michelle Johnstone, NHS Highland’s north area manager, said: “Due to the escalating staffing pressures that we are experiencing, from the 23 December we are only able to maintain the Minor Injury Unit from 7am to 7pm.

“After 7pm, the MIU service will be suspended but the Out of Hours service will continue to run. The Out of Hours service is contactable via NHS24 (111) where you will be triaged by an OOHs Doctor.”
