Drug driver was 'considerably over the limit' when caught in Thurso

A drug driver caught in police vehicle checks has been fined £400 and banned for 16 months.

Benjamin Moody, who is unemployed, pleaded guilty to the offence which occurred in Mount Pleasant, Thurso, on September 23, last year.

The 44-year-old gave a positive roadside test and a blood sample revealed a level of 207mcg – the legal limit for benzoylecgonine is 50mcg – Wick Sheriff Court was told on Wednesday.

Sheriff Neil Wilson gave Moody, of Climpy Road, Forth, South Lanarkshire, credit for his early plea but commented that his drug reading was "considerably over the limit".
