A Hull driver has admitted having caused his passengers serious injuries after he failed to take a bend near a Caithness village and crashed into a tree while more than seven times over the drug-driving limit.

George Longhorn (27) will be sentenced on the dangerous and drug driving indictment at Wick Sheriff Court later this year.

The accident occurred at Castletown on December 10, 2021.

Longhorn, of Nethersage Avenue, Mount Pleasant, Kingston-upon-Hull, was found to have a drug level of 359 mg in his blood - the legal limit is 50 mg. The drug involved was benzoylecgonine.

Longhorn had four passengers with him when he lost control of his vehicle after failing to negotiate a bend.

He appeared on a video link with the court on Wednesday and also admitted a previous record of offending.

Sheriff Mark Lindsay did not require to impose an interim driving ban on Longhorn after noting that he was already disqualified for an unrelated offence.

Longhorn will be sentenced on September 5.
