Driver killed in Berriedale crash
A MAN has died in an accident on a notorious stretch of road on the far north stretch of the A9.
It has been reported locally that a 41-year-old HGV driver was killed in a one vehicle collision at Berriedale Braes on Thursday night which closed the trunk road for eight hours.
The Scottish Ambulance Service reported it received a call at 11.20pm and notified Scottish Fire and Rescue who sent teams to the scene from Dunbeath, Helmsdale, Lybster, Wick and Inverness.
A spokesman for the fire service reported crews were required to use cutting gear to free the driver from the wreckage.
The road was re-opened at 7am this morning (Friday) to single lane traffic controlled by traffic lights and motorists are being warned to expect delays as investigations continue.

The collision resulted in vans carrying ballot boxes from Caithness having to the counting station in Dingwall having to divert via Thurso and Melvich before rejoining the A9 at Helmsdale.
The accident delayed the Highland referendum count by 90 minutes.
