Driver in Wick was seven times limit after taking cocaine

Police stopped Steven Anderson after receiving a tip-off and tests revealed he was more than seven times the legal drug limit.

A roadside test in Loch Street, Wick, on September 6, 2024, proved positive and a blood sample revealed a level of benzoylecgonine of 372mcg - the legal limit is 50mcg.

Alex Burn said that Anderson (33) had taken cocaine a couple of days before and “felt okay to be driving”. Nothing in his manner of driving had given officers any cause for concern.

The solicitor added that Anderson was a carpet fitter and the loss of his licence would cause him “a great deal of difficulty”.

Sheriff Neil Wilson gave the accused credit for his early plea and the fact he was a first offender, but made the point that his drug reading was “very high”.

Anderson, of Hillhead Road, Wick, was fined £400 after pleading guilty and was banned from driving for 16 months.
