Driver denies causing crash at Scrabster after losing control of vehicle





A Thrumster driver is alleged to have lost control near a bend in the county and collided with an oncoming car.

Malcolm McEwan (30) confirmed his plea of not guilty at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday and will stand trial next summer.

The accident is said to have taken place on the A836 at Scrabster crossroads, half-a-mile west of Thurso, on August 23, last year.

McEwan is accused of causing serious injury to a woman by driving his car dangerously and at excessive speed when it was unsafe, on a wet road surface and lost control of his vehicle which crossed the white line and collided with the woman’s vehicle. Both vehicles were said to have been severely damaged.

MacEwan, of Longreen Road, Thrumster, will stand trial before a jury on June 9, next year.
