A dress-down week held by staff at the BT call centre in Thurso provided a boost for those with sight and hearing difficulties.

A donation of £380 was handed over to Deirdre Aitken, manager of Hearing and Sight Care, which runs sensory centres in Wick and Thurso.

The money will go towards lipreading classes which will begin early 2020 in Thurso and Brora, and will supplement a grant of £8500 which was received from the Agnes Hunter Trust for the project.

Meanwhile, £2021.85 was raised at a prosecco afternoon tea fundraiser held recently in the Norseman Hotel in Wick.

More than 80 people enjoyed entertainment from young local pipers and a drummer, as well as local singers Clare Center and Chloe Bunch, and Highland dancer Katie Cass.

A delighted Mrs Aitken said: "Thanks to everyone involved for their generosity and support – it really was overwhelming."
