MEMBERS of a local drama group laid down their panto costumes to celebrate in style.

Wick Players held the Friday evening party to thank all their supporters over the years and almost 100 people showed up on the night.

Club secretary Jayden Alexander said: "Between myself and Allan Bruce, the vice-chairman, we thought it would be a good idea to thank everyone who has contributed financially or has supported us in other ways."

Jayden said that a "great range" of people, young and old, came to celebrate the Players' legacy with tours of the building and vintage photographs of past glories.

"We had old programmes on show, a raffle and talks on the history of Wick Players. It was a great trip down memory lane for many contributors, past and present," he said.

Allan Bruce has been involved with the Players from the mid-1990s, working backstage at first before taking on the role of front-of-house manager. He recently helped put together the funding applications to the Caithness and North Sutherland Fund, the Beatrice wind farm fund and Your Cash Your Caithness.

"The funding we got has helped us replace the roof and all the windows and doors here at our Moray Street premises," he said. "This is a fantastic facility for our club. We rehearse here, make the costumes here and make the scenery here."

Before the Moray Street premises was bought over the team functioned in an array of clubs and rooms across the town.

Allan said: "This place fitted the bill for all our needs when it came up for sale and we just wanted to thank and celebrate all those who have helped make Wick Players what it is now."
