Alisdair Mackechnie was going through his snaps of the celebration evening at the end of Wick Gala Week when he saw a mythical creature in the bonfire flames.

"I think it looks like a dragon roaring into the sky, however, some have said they think it resembles a unicorn – can see both in a way," he said.

Alisdair says people can make their own minds up and invites comments on his Facebook page at www.facebook.com/AllyMackPhotos.

The phenomenon is known as a "simulacrum" – a representation or imitation of a person or thing – and there are many examples around us if you look carefully enough.

Have you come across a simulacrum and captured a photograph? Please share images, specifying date, location and what you think the object looks like. A selection could be featured in a future publication. Send email with attached images to david.scott@hnmedia.co.uk
