Three community groups have benefited from the generosity of Dounreay workers.

Every year, staff at the site choose local charities to benefit from their fundraising over the festive period.

Money is donated through a JustGiving page, a bake-off, collections at festive lunches, a safety quiz and Christmas jumper days. Last year a total of £5206.20 was raised.

Cheques were presented recently to Caithness Klics, Caithness Mental Health Support Group and Befriending Caithness and the money will benefit service users of each group throughout the year.

Wendy Thain, manager/co-founder of Caithness Klics, which supports young carers, explained that the donation will be used to help with summer activities, transport and costs attending a Young Carers Festival in June.

Erin Bremner from Caithness Mental Health Support Group said their donation would help towards days out, new board games and pool cues for service users.

Befriending Caithness is delivered by Caithness Voluntary Group. Senior coordinator Elspeth Manson said the money will be used to support older adults to keep connected in their community by having a volunteer visit them at home for a chat or, if possible, to take them out for a drive and a coffee.
