Venues across Caithness and Sutherland will open their doors this weekend to give the public a chance to experience the area’s built and cultural heritage.

In total, 16 venues across the far north will be open as part of the Doors Open Days festival, taking place on Saturday and Sunday.

This is a fine chance to get a look behind the scenes at a variety of places, from ancient churches to modern-day distilleries. Thrumster railway station will be among the venues opening up, as well as the stores at Nucleus in Wick.

At Castletown, you can visit the Castlehill Heritage Centre or book onto a tour of the Castletown Mill which is due to be transformed into a visitor centre and whisky distillery.

Caithness and north Sutherland coordinator Ian Leith said: “Across Caithness and Sutherland, we have 16 venues over the weekend. The range is wonderfully varied and geographically diverse, with something for everyone.”
