Two Caithness women are planning a "splash for cash" through the county in aid of a good cause.

Elaine Rosie and Jacqueline Mackay intend taking the plunge in the sea at 12 coastal locations in Caithness later this month to raise funds for Caithness Heart Support Group (CHSG).

Noel Donaldson, chairman of CHSG, paid tribute to them and said: “Hopefully, their amazing effort will prove a welcome boost for our charity at a time when our fundraising efforts, like those of many organisations, are severely restricted due to Covid-19.”

The Dolly Dippers, as they have styled themselves, will spend 10 minutes in the sea at each of the following – Castlehill, Dunnet, Dwarick, Brough, Sandwick, Freswick, Keiss, Reiss, Ackergill, Staxigoe and the North Baths and Trinkie outdoor pools at Wick.

Elaine from Wick and Jacqueline who lives in Watten, have already had a few trial runs in advance of their coastal challenge and hope to complete the non-stop wild-swim challenge on September 25, in about eight hours.

The two Dounreay workers have already attracted some donations since launching their challenge on the web, recently. Those wishing to add to that, can do so online at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/dollydippers

Alistair Ferrier will drive the Dolly Dippers between their locations. They will be wearing swimming costumes as opposed to wet suits and hope for a warm, sunny day.

Noel added: “Our group’s chief aim is raising money for medical equipment for GP practices and hospitals in the county to ensure they have the best equipment we can provide – so the fundraiser being undertaken by Jacqueline and Elaine will help us to continue our support to them. Fingers crossed they get the weather they deserve.”
