A dog was shot and killed during a sheep worrying incident near Thurso, police said.

Concerns had been raised over dogs running loose on the road at Hilliclay earlier last month.

Then, on April 30, it is understood a farmer shot one of the dogs which had attacked some of his livestock.

Farmers are entitled to shoot dogs which are worrying livestock on their land.

Police said that "suitable advice" was given when they were made aware of dogs on the road on Monday, April 3.

A spokesman added: “We were made aware of a sheep worrying incident at a farm near Hilliclay around 9am on Friday, April 30.

“A dog was shot and destroyed during the incident.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
