Disqualified drink-driver was four times limit on Wick street at New Year

A New Year's Day drink-driver who was four times the legal limit and disqualified was put off the road for five years at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
David Smith (60) was also ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work. He previously pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and while disqualified.
He also admitted a previous conviction for drink-driving.
The offences occurred in Kennedy Terrace, Wick, on January 1. His breath-alcohol level was 91mcg – the legal limit is 22mcg.
Solicitor Patrick O' Dea said that Smith had taken the decision to drive "through a haze of alcohol".
Sheriff Wilson, who saw a background report, told the accused, of Mansfield Estate, Tain: "You had no business getting behind the wheel of a vehicle drunk or sober... you knew that."
