Derailed train at Georgemas disrupts Highland rail services
A FREIGHT train travelling on the Far North Line has derailed in Caithness forcing cancellation of train services between Wick and Inverness.
It has been reported the train came off the tracks at Georgemas Junction on Friday morning which has led to services being disrupted until at least 6pm tonight.
ScotRail confirmed the 7:02am service from Inverness to Wick was terminated at Helmsdale with alternative transport provided for northbound passengers.
The 8.02am service from Wick to Inverness was cancelled with alternative transport put in place at Thurso and Wick. The 7.02am service from Inverness to Wick terminated at Helmsdale with alternative transport requested for northbound passengers.
ScotRail have also confirmed that the 12.34pm from Wick to Inverness service will start at Helmsdale with alternative transport available for Caithness and North Sutherland passengers.
