Dennis's dress-up days help alleviate lockdown blues

A RETIRED head teacher in Wick has been using the lockdown period productively by constantly reinventing himself.

Dennis Lundie has been amusing neighbours and online followers with the vast array of different costumes he has dressed in over the past few weeks.

"People say 'thanks very much for brightening up my day' when I post the pictures," said Dennis, who lives in the Broadhaven area.

"They look forward to see what I'll dress up as next."

Some of the costumes were bought online but most he already had in the house. He put them to good use as part of a regularly updated "Dress up Friday" post he created on Facebook and received many supportive comments from his followers.

Dennis was inspired by a woman he had seen posting pictures of herself online.

"She dressed up on Friday afternoons as if she was going out and she said how much it brightened up her week.

"So I started by dressing in a blazer and bow tie as if going out on the town and then I thought, why not dress up to give people a laugh?"

Dennis said it was all about helping alleviate the lockdown blues many have struggled with.

"If posting a silly wee picture can help, then why not?"

Dennis was the head teacher at Wick North Primary School for 25 years until he retired a decade ago, and his fans include many of his former pupils who are now adults.

"They all know me about here," he said in his front garden while dressed as an archetypal hippy and garnering comments from passers-by.

"Peace and love, man," he declared while sticking flowers in his bandanna.

"I have to admit I was a hippie back in the day. I have a friend in Australia who said I was going back to my roots when he saw the photos."

He said that with lockdown restrictions now lifting he will call it a day on the Dress up Fridays which have been a regular feature on his Facebook over the last eight weeks.

He added: "It's just a bit of fun and nothing more cerebral than that."
